Adultery an evolutionary trait?

7:13 pm News

I happened to come across a clip on the Today show this morning with a panel of experts explaining away why married couples commit adultery.

ANN CURRY: Is (adultery) psychological or physical?

HELEN FISHER: It’s both, its everything. But it’s also darwinian and evolutionary. For millions of years the people who were adulterers did get some genetic payoffs. They ended up having more babies, passing this tendency to us.

ANN CURRY: Hmmmm.. (in agreement)

Wow! Very deep.

So, Ms. Fisher where did you get the evidence for your conclusion? Did you talk to the first guy who committed adultery? Or did a bunch of scientists get a primate and play out this scenario? I thought this was supposed to be scientific and data-driven. I’m sure you won’t give credit to evolution if your husband cheated on you.

I have another question, Ms. Fisher: What do you make of the fact that married couples who have sex only with each other all through their lives don’t contract STD’s while those who are promiscuous are at risk? Why do homosexuals overall have a lower life expectancy than heterosexuals?

A lot of politically incorrect things to answer. Take your time.

Here’s the clip:
