Palin Power

2008 Race, Republicans 1 Comment

Oh what a night.  I got my Huck fix and watched Palin fire up and unify a party like I’ve never witnessed before.

Huckabee brought “change” to the table in three scenarios; gas prices to a single mom, flight attendants with pay cuts and a young couple losing their American dream all want “change.” Huck went on to say,

John McCain offers specific ideas to respond to this need for change. But there are some things we never want to change — freedom, security and the opportunity to prosper.

With digs on Obama for his ‘excellent trip’ to Europe, seeking the approval of foreigners with no power to vote and then bringing home European ideology Huckabee couldn’t have said it more clearly that this was the change we don’t need.

Way to go Mike.

And then Sarah Palin came into the spotlight. She couldn’t settle the enthusiasm.

The ripping she has taken from media morons have united this party even before she even spoke a word.  And then…she delivered. She shut ‘em up with,

Our family has the same ups and downs as any other — the same challenges and the same joys.

Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge.

And children with special needs inspire a special love.

To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters.
I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.

If that didn’t get your attention, certainly the dirt she dished about Obama must have.  As Megyn Kelly said, “She stuck the knife in Obama and did it with a smile.”

It was an exhilarating speech, from soup to nuts.  And the first negative thing the left rebutted with was that some one else wrote her speech.  Come on Chris Wallace, that’s all you got?  I’d like to show him where to put his Peabody.  What a knucklehead.

Backtrack Barack has an entire staff of writer’s headed by a 26 year old punk named Jon Favreau.

It’s all over.  As my Dad would say, “it’s all over but the crying and the bleeding.”

Sarah Palin, you sealed the deal.

If it weren’t for the lipstick you’d swear she was a pit bull.

McCain Stands Up

For all those who think that you’re going to get Sarah Palin off the ticket, John McCain sent a clear message, “Take a long jump off a short pier.” I wondered whether he would have the gumption to stick by Palin given people have been thrown under the bus. But, this is different.

This isn’t about someone making an offensive statement. This is a media war against an American family, and John McCain will not surrender. He will not give in to these people. He’s communicating clearly where he stands. The left and the Washington elite won’t understand it.

It’s called, “Honor.”

No, He Can’t

Liberals love to suggest that Bristol Palin getting pregnant shows that abstinence education doesn’t work. In similar manner, given the over the top, nutsy tone of the Obama base online,  people are taking an anything to win attitude? If he can’t sell post-partisanship to his base (heck, according to him, he can’t even get his campaign to lay off its “hair trigger”), good luck actually achieving it in Washington.

Of course, there is more evidence of this than just out of control supporters. Obama going after McCain on abortion is really an extreme partisan act. John Kerry didn’t go there with George W. Bush, neither did Al Gore. Both were smart enough to know the issue is radioactive with a lot of voters who otherwise vote Democratic, but have got some serious issues with the party on abortion. After the 2004 election, Democrats identified that they needed to tone down the pro-abortion image and they took over Congress with the help of pro-life Democrats like Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), and Congressmen Heath Shuler (D-NC) and Brad Ellsworth (D-IN.)

With this ad, Obama has opened himself up. If you were to define a centrist position on abortion, it would be that abortion ought to be available only early in pregnancy with reasonable restrictions in place such as parental consent/notification and informed consent, and there’d be no taxpayer funding of abortion outside the limited cases covered by the Hyde Amendment. The problem with Senator Obama, the first thing he’s promised to do as President is sign the mis-named Freedom of Choice Act, which will effectively remove all restrictions on abortion. Yeah, bringing that up first thing is the way to bring our country together. If McCain’s smart, they’ve got an ad in production already.

In the end, Obama can’t be Mr. Post-Partisan because his rhetoric is either very naive or very cynical. Obama pretends the issues that divide Americans are quite small, when in many cases, they amount to huge worldview issues over things like the role of government and the role of God in society. Acting like solutions to these problems can be solved by a three word mantra, “Yes, we can” is over-simplification that’s really quite disrespectful to the honest issues Americans are debating.

Obama stands full bore on the left side of the political perspective, and his policies rather than transcending left and right, are the epitome of the left. He’s just trying to wrap far leftism in a “post-partisan” package. This facade will fail. The only question is whether he’ll be able to trick enough Americans to get the presidency before it does.
