Liberal group MoveOn.org has purchased ads on Facebook featuring mainstream news stories with headlines that have been rewritten to be blatantly critical of Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin.

The misleading ads, which link to articles by media outlets such as The Washington Post, the Associated Press and The Wall Street Journal, boast headlines like: “AP Says: Palin Lied” and “Washington Post breaks ANOTHER Palin scandal.”

“During a presidential election season, voters need to be even more cautious about where they get their information and what sources of news they consume,” said Carrie Gordon Earll, senior director of issue analysis at Focus on the Family Action. “This is an example of how political agendas can be portrayed and perceived as news in order to influence the election. Voters should beware.”

The news organizations said they were not aware of the ads.
